In the early days of my photography career friends that visited my house would joke about how my wife and I had very eclectic family photos. That’s because we left the generic photos, with the white people, in the frames around the house in hopes of replacing them with our own; but it stayed that way for years. We had a couple of frames (like the image above).
This all changed when my frugal wife decided to print a bunch of photos in colour on regular paper, cut them out and put them in the photo frames. Like, who needs photo paper right?!
There are many reasons why digital images are handy but print still has a place. Here are 3 reasons why you should consider getting prints.
- Digitals Go “Poof!”
Your digital files can go bye-bye in the blink of an eye when your phone, laptop or external hard drive crashes. Leaving you with nothing but a vague memory of what once was. It’s happened to me a couple of times. Back up your photos to the cloud. - Prints Last Longer
When stored correctly prints can last for many years. Think back to all the photos you have from when you were a baby. You know, the ones that your Mom has in her dresser drawer for safekeeping (that’s what my Madda did) … You can’t even deny that feeling of nostalgia when you hold it in your hands. - Prints Help to Improve Your Decor
You can have your favourite photos compiled in a coffee table photobook, printed on canvas or framed and mounted on the wall in your office or home. Printed photos in your space gives it a bit of panache, a personal touch even.
Over the years as a photographer, I’ve sent tons of digitals files to clients by email only to get a response many months later asking me to resend the photos because they misplaced the files and I do once I locate them in my archives.
If you get a chance to print your photos jus’ print it.
